Zagreb Fair – 70 Years on the Right Bank of the Sava
On Tuesday, 22 September 2026 at 7 p.m., the exhibition Zagreb Fair – 70 Years on the Right Bank of the Sava will open at the Chinese Pavilion of the Zagreb Fair. The exhibition is authored by Melita Čavlović (Faculty of Architecture, University of Zagreb), Sonja Leboš (Association for Interdisciplinary and Intercultural Research), and Lana Lovrenčić (Institute of Art History).
The exhibition marks the 70th anniversary of the relocation of the Zagreb Fair to the right bank of the Sava. Through urban plans, architectural designs, photographs, newspaper articles, and other archival materials, it traces the process that led to the Fair’s relocation across the Sava, Haberle’s design of the new fair city, and its construction during 1955 and 1956. Particular attention is devoted to the pavilions erected for the 1956 International Autumn Zagreb Fair and to the fairgrounds as a space where different architectural concepts, economic interests, and international relations converged.
The relocation of the Fair was the result of economic and political decisions, but also of decades of planning and shaping the area across the Sava. Its construction simultaneously entailed the creation of new transport and municipal infrastructure and represents one of the significant moments in Zagreb’s post-war urban development.
